NV101: Night Vision Foundations
Course Overview
NV101 is a hands-on introduction to modern night vision—built for those new to NVGs as well as prospective buyers looking to make informed decisions. This course breaks down how night vision works, how to properly set up and use your equipment, and what to realistically expect when operating after dark.
Rather than relying on theory alone, NV101 focuses on practical knowledge, real-world setup, and live use—giving students confidence in both the technology and their own capability.
Night Vision Fundamentals
We start with the core concepts behind night vision technology. You’ll learn how image intensification works, what separates tube quality and performance tiers, and how ambient light, environment, and settings affect what you see through your device.
Gear Selection & Setup
Students are guided through the essential components of a night vision setup, including:
- Helmet types and fitment considerations
- Proper mounting and adjustment
- Balancing comfort, stability, and ergonomics
We cover common setup mistakes and best practices so your system works with you, not against you.
Lasers & Illuminators
Choosing the right laser can be confusing and expensive. NV101 breaks it down clearly:
- Visible vs IR lasers
- Illuminators and when they matter
- Performance vs price across common laser options
You’ll learn what features actually matter—and what doesn’t—based on real use cases.
Focus, Zeroing & Configuration
Students will learn how to:
- Properly focus night vision devices for clarity and depth
- Zero IR lasers correctly
- Understand and apply the two most common laser zero distances
This section ties equipment setup directly to performance and consistency in the field.
Live Use & Practical Application
Theory only goes so far. NV101 brings everything together through hands-on use, where students operate their gear in real time. We introduce practical drills designed to build familiarity, confidence, and situational awareness under night vision.
These exercises help students understand what it actually feels like to move, observe, and work in the dark—accelerating the learning curve and setting realistic expectations.
